Markel looked me in my damn face and lied like shit. I came straight out and asked him if he cheated on me and he said no, lying with a straight face. I donât know why I expected him to tell me the truth. He must donât realize his back looks like a cat used it as a scratching post. I know back scratches from dick action when I see them and I damn sure didnât put them there. Nevertheless, I laid in his arms as his wife.
I know a lot of women would say, âOh no, you shouldâve left that nigga. Heâs this and heâs that and he doesnât respect you and yadda yadda yadda.â Honestly, until a woman has been in my situation; until she has put in the kind of time, love and commitment that Iâve put into this marriage, into this relationship for the last 16 years, no woman can say what she would have done. The shit is much easier said than done. Besides, we have children and I know how much it would hurt them if they saw us fighting or we separated and got a divorce. Their needs and what was best for them trumped my frivolous pride.
My pride⦠it was all but shattered as well as my dignity after I left Xavierâs home. As good as the sex was, that pay back I called myself getting because of what Markel did to me did nothing for me except make me feel petty and cheap. It was one thing to get some payback dick when I was 19 and 20 years old. It was another thing to do it at 30. The first thing I was going to do in the morning was refund Xavier his money back and let him know what happened between us was wrong and will never happen again and it will be in our best interests if we donât see each other again on a professional or personal level.
The morning after Markel and I had our reconciliation, I fixed my children a magnificent breakfast of scrambled cheese eggs, bacon and red velvet pancakes. At the risk of going into the office late, Markel sat at the breakfast table with us and we all ate together. It was the first time in a long time, except when we sit down to eat dinner, that it felt like I had an actual family. Tianna and J.R were taken to school by Markel and Tamia and I went to have a mother/daughter day at the hair and nail salon.
Everything was fine until I was in my Range Rover with Tamia on our way back from doing a little shopping when a call came through on my cell phone. Instead of answering on the headset, I answered through the Bluetooth to the truck.
âTierra Davisâ phone,â I answered as I stopped at a red light.
âHello beautiful,â I heard Xavierâs voice come on the line sounding just as sensuous and sexy as before. Frightened, I glanced quickly at Tamia who looked at me wide-eyed.
